Pakistan is “a victim of its state policies aimed at nurturing terrorist organizations”, India said.

Geneva:

Accusing Pakistan of atrocities against its minorities, India said the world did not need lessons on democracy and human rights from a country whose contribution to the globalization of terror is without previous.

Speaking at the general debate of the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, the First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of India to the UN, Seema Pujani, said “It is ironic that Pakistan, a state whose foundations have been laid on communal ideologies speaks of communal discord and religious intolerance.”

“The world does not need lessons on democracy and human rights from a country whose contribution to the globalization of terror is unprecedented,” she added.

Exercising his “right of reply” in response to Pakistan’s statement under the agenda item, the Indian diplomat said that it is in this obsession with puritanism that Pakistan has unleashed a systematic persecution of its own minorities, including the Shia, Ahmadis, Ismailis and Hazaras, who face daily sectarian violence and systemic discrimination.

“The kidnappings, forced conversions and forced marriages of Hindus, Sikhs and Christians are good examples of Pakistan’s flourishing policy of religious intolerance and hatred”, she pointed out and added, “the enforced disappearances, state violence and forced mass displacement, harassment, extrajudicial executions, army operations, torture, killing and dumping camps, detention centers, military camps are rampant in Balochistan, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”

She condemned Pakistan for abducting thousands of Baluchis and Pashtuns and said “nobody knows the fate of the thousands of Balochis and Pashtuns missing so far”.

“Pakistan has never succeeded in meeting the global demand to dismantle the terrorist factory in Pakistan which is producing terrorists responsible for violating the most basic human rights, the right to life of people in our region and in the world”.

Further adding, she described Pakistan as a “victim of its state policies aimed at nurturing terrorist organizations”, and said that countries in the region are under threat due to Pakistan’s support for terrorism.

“As the epicenter of terrorism, Pakistan poses a threat to the security of countries in the region and beyond, even as terrorists thrive in Pakistan and roam its streets with impunity.”

She said: “We expect nothing better from a Pakistani delegation that harbors a deep sense of insecurity and orchestrated hatred against India, our secular credentials and the values we stand for.”

However, despite its desperate efforts, she noted, “the world is able to see through its deception and doublespeak. It is time to hold Pakistan to account and not let it abuse the platforms of the ‘UN to spread disinformation’.
