New Delhi: Delhi Energy Minister Satyendar Jain was sworn in on Thursday by retired Allahabad High Court Judge Shabihul Husnain as the new chairman of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission ( DERC).
“The Delhi government’s people-centered policies in the electricity sector have been truly remarkable and I look forward to doing my best to keep up the good work,” Husnain said, after taking the helm.
The DERC is an autonomous quasi-judicial body responsible for setting electricity tariffs in the national capital.
Husnain’s appointment as DERC chairman was approved last week by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after his name was suggested by the selection committee formed under the Electricity Act 2003.

The new president will consider it once. The tariff decree is, moreover, ready and it is unlikely that there will again be an increase in electricity costs, ”said the official on condition of anonymity.
