ICC Approves Ameren’s Electric Vehicle Charging Tariff

COLLINSVILLE – The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) has approved Ameren Illinois’ electric vehicle charging rate.

The tariff is designed to help kickstart the adoption of electric vehicles and the installation of charging stations in central and southern Illinois and accelerate progress toward the state’s green energy goals.

Filed in August 2020, the tariff allows Ameren Illinois to support the development of a charging infrastructure network and implement special time-based delivery service tariffs and other incentives to encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles.

Richard Mark, president and chairman of Ameren Illinois, said there are fewer than 60 publicly accessible charging stations in Ameren Illinois’ 44,000 square mile service territory.

“A common barrier that people identify when considering owning an electric vehicle is range anxiety, the fear that a charging station will not be available during long road trips,” he said. he declares. “This tariff will help address this concern by offering tariff incentives and additional line extension allowances that will improve accessibility to charging infrastructure at home and on the road.

“The plan also includes additional line extension allowances for charging station installations that serve customers in low-income areas, to support electric transportation for those customers,” he said.

Ameren Illinois’ electric vehicle charging program has six components:

• Single-family residential charging. Includes a special delivery service rate to encourage home charging during off-peak hours.

• Multi-family residential charging. Designed to encourage ownership of electric vehicles among people living in multi-family facilities, while providing these residents with the ability to charge at home. Also provides a special delivery service rate and additional line extension allowance for landowners who install charging facilities on their properties, with additional allowances for installations in low income areas.

• Charging of educational establishments. Offers special delivery service rates and incentives for electric school bus operators. Support clean transportation for schoolchildren in Ameren, Illinois.

• Billing of transit facilities. Offers special delivery service rates and incentives for customers who operate electric transit buses. Support the low to moderate income clientele of Ameren Illinois by providing a way for those who do not own a vehicle to participate in the electrification of the transportation sector.

• Corridor loading. Incentive for landowners and third party entities to install publicly accessible fast charging stations in predetermined areas along transport corridors.

• Fast DC charging without lane. Tariff incentives to promote the installation of public fast charging throughout the territory.

Customers will be able to begin purchasing new pricing options this fall. For more information on electric vehicles, visit AmerenIllinois.com/EV.
