GANHRI Chairman discusses human rights situation with Ukrainian official

Doha: President of the National Human Rights Committee (CNDH) and President of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah met with the Commissioner of the Ukrainian Parliament for Human Rights rights, HE Lyudmila Denisova.

During the meeting, which was held by videoconference, the two sides discussed the role of the Commissioner of the Ukrainian Parliament in providing international institutions with factual information on the human rights situation in Ukraine, including the Independent International Commission of Inquiry, which was established by the Human Rights Council pursuant to resolution 49/1, adopted on March 4.

Denisova expressed Ukraine’s gratitude for the constant support it has received from national human rights institutions in the region, and for providing and coordinating humanitarian assistance to those in need. that most of the reports received by the institution relate to humanitarian assistance, security of humanitarian corridors, missing persons and economic rights, including the right to health, the right to housing, the right to sanitation and the right to food.

The Commission estimates that more than 3.5 million Ukrainian refugees have fled to neighboring countries since February 24. humanitarian aid needed.

Since the start of the crisis, the Commissioner has documented and reported violations, including of the right to life and security, investigating reports of missing persons and monitoring the status of prisoners of war in detention.

The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions submitted a statement to the Human Rights Council during the emergency debate on Ukraine, expressing grave concern over the state of emergency in Ukraine . The Alliance called for an end to hostilities and respect for international human rights and international humanitarian law, and urged immediate, safe and unhindered humanitarian access to all in need.
