Melda Mergen, rated A by Citywire, will become global head of equities at Columbia Threadneedle effective October 1, 2021, before William Davies becomes global chief investment officer early next year.

The asset manager announced last month that Davies will succeed Colin Moore as global CIO, who is expected to retire from the company. Davies is currently Global Head of Equities, with Mergen being his deputy.

Mergen, who is named to three of the group’s global equity funds, will continue to report to Davies once the role change occurs.

Columbia Threadneedle said Mergen has made significant contributions to her research, portfolio management and investment roles since joining a predecessor company of Columbia Threadneedle in 1999.

Mergen was appointed Deputy Global Head of Equities in 2017, which includes responsibility for the U.S. Equity Investment Team. She had also previously worked as head of US equities and led an investment team.

In his new role, Mergen will lead Columbia Threadneedle’s equity investment teams in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia-Pacific. She will continue to manage portfolios when she assumes her new role and no changes are made to the investment process underlying these strategies.

Commenting on the change, Davies said, “Melda is a well-respected investor and proven leader with a solid track record of delivering consistently competitive investment performance and research-driven solutions for our clients. We have worked together for many years and I have no doubts that the leadership and continuity she brings to this role will serve our clients well. ‘
